Income tax
Corporate income tax for the financial year, as reported in the accounts.
Poland taxes profit as it is earned rather than when it is distributed, so a profitable company reports a tax charge every year. The headline corporate rate is 19 per cent, with 9 per cent for small taxpayers and companies in their first year.
The figure in the accounts need not equal the rate times profit before tax: the accounting and tax bases differ by non-deductible costs, losses carried forward from earlier years, and reliefs.
One regime is worth knowing about. A company that has opted into the lump-sum tax on company income — ryczałt od dochodów spółek — pays only when profit is distributed, and can therefore report zero for years. That is the ordinary result of the regime it chose, not a sign of anything unusual.
