Profit before income tax

Operating profit with financial income and costs added, before income tax is deducted.

This line takes operating profit, adds financial income (interest, dividends received, exchange gains) and subtracts financial costs (loan interest, exchange losses).

The gap between this line and net profit is the income tax charge. Where that gap is noticeably smaller than the headline rate implies, the usual reasons are losses carried forward from earlier years, tax reliefs, or costs that are not deductible.
